HP Pavilion dm1-4010us (Late 2011)
Graphics Performance
The dm1's discrete-class AMD Radeon HD 6320 GPU returned a decent score of 2,650 on 3DMark06. While that's 230 points below the ultraportable average, it trounced the IdeaPad S205's ATI Mobility Radeon 6310 GPU (2,269) and the Aspire One's ATI Radeon HD 6250 GPU (1,630). The older dm1z scored 2,217.Condition: REFURBISHED | |

Weight: 5.1 lbs.HP EliteBook 8560Wgraphics...As our review unit of the 8560w (2.3GHz Intel Core i7-2820QM CPU, 16GB of RAM, 500GB, 7,200-rpm hard drive, 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 LED backlit display and an AMD FirePro M5950 GPU with 1GB of VRAM) was not a preconfigured model, it costs a very pricey $3,788. The top-of-the-line preconfigured 8560w is $2,199, which gets you a 2-GHz Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 1920 x 1080p display with AMD FirePro M5950 GPU with 1GB of VRAM.The $1,349 base model features a 2.6-GHz Intel Core i5-2410M, 4GB of RAM with a 500GB, 7,200-rpm hard drive, AMD FirePro M5950 GPU with 1GB of VRAM, and a 15.6-inch 1600 x 900 LED backlit display. Consumers can also choose to add either a 128GB or a 256GB solid state drive for $175 and $500, respectively. Nvidia fans can upgrade to the Nvidia Quadro 1000M GPU ($45) or the Nvidia Quadro 2000M GPU ($145). Both come equipped with 2GB of video memory. HP Pavilion dm1z..Similar in design to the Pavilion dm3t, the Pavilion dm1z is easily one of the most attractive 11-inch systems on the market. The glossy black lid features HP's new Grid Imprint design, which looks attractive, but fingerprint smudges are still visible. The underside is also a glossy black; we prefer the rubberized finish of the dm3t, but that notebook has a higher starting price.Inside, the dm1z's black island-style keyboard and clickpad are offset by a silver deck and bezel; it's understated yet stylish. Measuring 11.4 x 8.4 x 0.8 x 1.2 inches and weighing 3.4 pounds, the dm1z is nearly the same size and weight as the Asus Eee PC 1215N. As with that supersized netbook, the dm1z fits easily into a messenger bag, and while noticeable, it didn't weigh us down. HeatDespite its small size, the dm1z is one of the coolest notebooks we've yet tested. Employing HP's CoolSense technology--first seen on the dm3t--the dm1z has HP's Thermal Assistant software, which automatically adjusts the fan speed if it senses the notebook is on a person's lap or on a table. After streaming a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the touchpad, G and H keys, and underside measured 76, 78, and 77 degrees, respectively. However, fan noise was noticeable in a quiet room, and we could feel it whirring when we had our hands on the palm rests.Keyboard and TouchpadLike most other notebooks in HP's lineup, the dm1z has a chiclet-style keyboard that extends nearly to the edges of the chassis. Though the keys don't have as much travel as, say, the Envy 17, it was still a pleasure to type this review on the laptop. We were up to our usual typing rate in no time. HP thoughtfully reversed the function row keys; you don't have to press FN to adjust the volume or brightness.HP ProBook 6460b..DesignThe bead-blast aluminum lid on the ProBook 6460b not only looks sophisticated, it's also effective at keeping smudges to a minimum. The rest of the chassis is made of magnesium-reinforced ABS plastic. To prevent damage from spills, the 6460b uses a bottom-case drain, which works in combination with the spill-resistant keyboard. At 13.3 x 9.1 x 1.3 inches and 5.2 pounds, the ProBook 6460b certainly isn't the lightest 14-inch business laptop around. For example, the 14-inch ThinkPad Edge E420s weighs 4.4 pounds and has a thinner 1.2-inch profile. The pricier HP EliteBook 8460p weighs a heftier 5.4 pounds, but it's also more durable than the ProBook 6460b. HeatAfter we played a video at full screen for 15 minutes, the keyboard and touchpad on the ProBook 6460b only reached 83 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit, respectively. The center of the bottom only reached 86. This is among the coolest-running notebooks we've tested this year.Keyboard and TrackpadHP's island-style keyboard on the ProBook 6460b gets the job done, but it could be better. While the layout is spacious enough, the keys are flat and don't offer the strongest tactile feedback. We also wish that the Backspace key weren't undersized, as we kept accidentally hitting the Home key right next to it.The ProBook 6460b's 3.9 x 1.8-inch touchpad is comfortably wide and has a friction-free matte texture for easy navigation. This Synaptics pad is capable of multitouch gestures, but two-finger scrolling didn't work some of the time. Pinch-to-zoom was jerky, and we noticed lag with three-finger gestures. The two mouse buttons on this laptop turned us off. Not only are they narrow, but the feedback is mushy. Display and AudioThe 14-inch display on the ProBook 6460b produces a fairly bright image, and the matte finish means you won't be bothered by glare. When we watched an HD trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2, colors looked accurate and the action was smooth. Just don't expect wide viewing angles for giving presentations to more than two people at once.Located on the bottom-left side of the laptop, the ProBook 6460b's speaker produces plenty of volume. Not only could we hear over medium background noise, but the audio also had a modicum of depth to it. That's thanks to the SRS Premium Sound drivers. On the audio configuration screen, we were even able to improve the quality of John Barrowman's "All Out Of Love" by choosing the Voice audio enhancement, which brought the center forward. We noted present, but not strong, bass when listening to Tricky Pixie's "Alligator in the House." The Harry Potter trailer also got surprisingly loud. Ports and WebcamIn line with its business DNA, the ProBook comes with a few ports you don't see on many mainstream notebooks: a modem, a DisplayPort, and a FireWire port. There's also an ExpressCard/54 slot. On the bottom you'll find a docking connector and the secondary battery connector.Toshiba Satellite C650-BT5N11 Price & Reviews..configuration..
